PD Dr. Jessica Höll
PD Dr. med. Jessica Hoell studied medicine at Ruprecht-Karls-University (Heidelberg), St. George’s University of London (England) and the University of Maryland (Baltimore, USA). She received a scholarship awarded by the Bavarian State to excellent students and was later a fellow of the German National Academic Foundation. For her studies abroad, she was funded by DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) in the framework of the European Excellence Program (EEP).
For her medical thesis (“summa cum laude”), Jessica worked at the Institute of Human Genetics of Heidelberg University in the laboratory of Prof. Rappold. She was a postdoctoral fellow (funded by the German Research Foundation) in the laboratory of Prof. Tuschl at Rockefeller University in New York (2008-2010). Ever since, her research has focused on posttranscriptional gene regulation. Accordingly, the title of her habilitation (2017) was „Mechanisms of posttranscriptional gene regulation in pediatric cancers.
Jessica obtained her medical license in 2007 and started her clinical training in pediatrics and later pediatric oncology at Düsseldorf University Hospital (Department of Pediatric Hematology, Oncology and Immunology, Prof. Borkhardt), where she stayed until 2018, after which she transferred to Halle (Saale) University. Here, she is funded by the Advanced Clinician Scientist Program, which reserves time for research and provides funding. Jessica is particularly interested in understanding the role of posttranscriptional gene regulation (especially through RNA-binding proteins) in hematologic malignancies.
